Grand Canyon National Park

The Grand Canyon; one of the Seven Wonders of the World. First established as a NP in 1919, it remains one of the most visited places on the planet with over 6.3 million visitors a year! Known for its massive cliff sides and size, this landmark is almost immediately recognizable and known to just about everyone.

We had the chance to visit the South Rim of the canyon in September of 2018. The drive from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon Village was surprisingly diverse. The environment rapidly changed from dry deserts, to lush forests, to green open meadows, and finally to the canyon; all within a 3.5 hour drive.

Going in, we knew exactly what we wanted to do; the South Kaibab Trail. From rim to river and back this trail is about 17.5 miles round trip. It is HIGHLY recommend you do not make this trip in one day, especially during the summer months. We did about half of it.

This trail takes you down into the canyon and along the cliff sides, while taking in the best and most personal views of it. We recommend the trail as your first impression of the canyon instead of the crowded overlooks. Do this first to the best of your ability. You will not regret it.

If you're not an avid hiker and just appreciate being outdoors, that's okay! The park has a number of other activities you can do. If you're still feeling adventurous you can do a rafting trip down the river, do a hike on a mule, or just simply camp!

The Grand Canyon has about 1.2 million Wild Acres to explore! It was such a Grand and inspiring experience and we are looking forward to visiting again. Get there if you can!
